Hello everyone,
Its been quite a while since I've posted a meme, so here are two - for your enjoyment - and some other things I've come across and wanted to share!
Found this meme via
litlover12
1. One book that changed your life?
I can't say 'changed my life', but I've learned a lot and been very impressed by Arena by Karen Hancock
2. One book you have read more than once?
Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
3. One book you would want on a desert island?
Surviving in the wild for dummies ;-) Or maybe Robinson Crusoe
4. One book that made you laugh?
The Sacred Diary of Adrian Plass by Adrian Plass
5. One book that made you cry?
Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien
6. One book you wish had been written?
What Jane Austen would've written next if she has lived a longer life.
7. One book you wish had never had been written?
Biographies of people famous through reality tv
8. One book you are currently reading?
Mary Barton by Elizabeth Gaskell
9. One book you have been meaning to read?
So many.... Alright, one of the most urgent ones is the Dutch literary novel Het recht op terugkeer by Leon de Winter, which I got as a gift many years ago and which I don't want to get rid of before I at least try to read it.
And this second meme I got from
moonplanet who provided me with the impossible letter 'U' and wasn't even sorry for it ;-)
The idea is to post five things which make you happy and start with the given letter. If you also would like a letter, please comment.
1. UK
I'm an Anglophile, I don't know why... I've loved the English language, culture, history and books and movies coming from the UK since I was a young teenager. I've been to the UK 6 times now and enjoyed each and every visit. It's a joy to see the beautiful countryside and the interesting historical monuments and to hear the lovely British accents around you. And ofcourse to buy the best chocolate chip cookies in the world at Tesco's!
2. Utrecht
The city where I studied and now work. Though I don't live there (but quite close) I love visiting it for shopping or having dinner. It has a really nice historical center and, uniquely, a large medieval church without a nave! The nave of the Utrechter Dom collapsed during a heavy storm in 1674 and was never rebuild. The choir and the tower still stand and in between them is a square, my very favourite place of Utrecht.

For some reason I couldn't find a larger picture of a top view of the Dom, but you can also look it up in Google Maps.
3. Uithof
The campus of the university where I work. It's a relatively modern campus, only a little over 50 years old. It's build a the edge of the agricultural area surrounding Utrecht, so if you like, during your lunchbreak you can take a pleasant and pretty walk. The last few years, a lot of new buildings have been added to De Uithof and though I'm generally not a big fan of modern architecture, I really like the feeling of De Uithof now.
4. University
I love working at a university. I love all these people connected, working in so many different fields discovering exciting new things. Expanding the field of knowledge, I would say, if I got very poetic. A university really is a unique setting, both a teaching and a research center and in the case of my university also with a clinical component in the hospital and the veterinary clinics.
5. Uien (onions, but because the U is such a difficult letter, I feel I'm allowed to cheat and also add a Dutch word)
Onions are an unmissable ingredient in so many recipes. Often, I've only started to fry an onion when one of my housemates passes the kitchen and says: 'That smells nice!'. It really gives so much flavour to everything! And I love red onions most of all, they are a little sweet and perfect in salads.
Are you all still missing The Lizzie Bennet diaries very much? I know I am. And even though we get a new story (Sanditon) from the producers already in May, I was still excited when I found this other vlog-adaptation of a classic novel: The Autobiography of Jane Eyre. I can't predict if it's going to be anywhere near as good as LBD, but I'm loving these first vids.
So, this is apparently one of the movies Dan Stevensleft Downton Abbey for
Looks nice and only for the cast I would want to watch this, but I don't know about the story. Might get pretty intense. But am I the only one who wasn't thinking about Downton, but about Sense and Sensibility '08? I mean, Edward Ferrars, Elinor Dashwood ánd Willoughby reunited!
