This casting picspam was made for the cast/recast picspam challenge at Costume Awards

You may know the brilliant book The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde. In that case you also know this is not a 'classic' or even a contemporary historical novel. Then why, may you ask, are you making a cast picspam of this book for a Costume community? Well, The Eyre Affair may not (yet...) be a classic, it is all about the classics in this novel. More specifically about Jane Eyre, as you might have guessed from the title. I'll stop chatting now and give you a small introduction to the book and then, on to my casting choices!

Book summary: The Eyre Affair takes place in an alternative '80's, in which the Crimean War is still ongoing, people keep re-engineered dodos as pets and the public is obsessively in love with literature. Meet Thursday Next, a 30-something single, living in London and working as a literary detective at SpecOps-27 (special operations). Thursday gets in trouble at work when she's involved in a shoot-out after the original Martin Chuzzlewit manuscript goes missing. She is replaced to her birthplace Swindon, which might sound calm and out-of-the-way, but adventure seems to follow Thursday here as well. When the original Jane Eyre manuscript is stolen and strange things happen to the narrative, Thursday might have to go beyond the boundaries of our world to save the beloved novel.

The level-headed heroine will be played by Hattie Morahan (Sense and Sensibility '08)

Landen is the man from Thursday's past. Now a writer and still living in Swindon, he will bump into Thursday again when she moves back there. Will he also be the man for her future? Landen will be played by Eliot Cowan (Lost in Austen)

One of Britain's most sought criminals and allegedly unable to be killed, Acheron Hades
is Thursday's enemy in the novel. He will be played by Mark Strong (Emma '96, The Young Victoria)

Bowden is Thursday's partner at her new workplace in Swindon. Used to a quiet and ordered job, Bowden might be in for a change when he teams up with Thursday. He will be played by Anthony Howell (Wives and Daughters, Foyle's War)

Thursday's father was a member of the ChronoGuard, a special policeforce who keeps track of everything related to time. Unfortunately, he stumbled upon corruption in the higher regions of the force and was eradicated from time. Luckily, he can still visit his family members, although his visits are not always in the right chronological order... He will be played by Anthony Andrews (The Scarlett Pimpernel, David Copperfield, The King's Speech)

Thursday's mother lives in Swindon with Mycroft and Polly and some pet dodos. Like Mrs. Bennet, she would like nothing more then for her daughter to get married and she does not hestitate to try and make matches. She will be played by Celia Imrie (Cranford, Daniel Deronda)

Thursday's uncle Mycroft is an brilliant inventor. Unfortunately, he invents mostly useless things. This changes when he invents the Prose Portal (which transports people into the Bookworld) and finds himself right in the middle of Thursday's adventures. He will be played by Jim Broadbent (The Young Visitors, Harry Potter)

Thursday's aunt Polly is the slightly less chaotic wife of Mycroft. As her husband's volunteer, she is the first person to go through the Prose Portal. But will she able to get back to the real world? She will be played by Barbara Flynn (Cranford, Miss Potter)

Jack Schitt, employee of the super-cooperation Goliath, is very interested in marketing the Prose Portal. But just how far is he willing to go to get it and might he be in league with Acheron Hades? Jack Schitt will be played by Allan Cumming (Emma '96, The Good Wife)

Thursday mysteriously met Rochester as a child. When everything in his book starts to go wrong,
Rochester is only too glad too receive Thursday's help. He will be played by John Light (North and South, Dresden)

Jane Eyre is about to visit the real world for the first time, but does she go willingly? And will she find her way back to her beloved Rochester? Jane will be played by Imogen Poots (Miss Austen regrets)

This was real fun to do! I wanted to do more of these picspams for the challenge, but unfortunately time flies and the closing date is today. Well, I might still do it anyway! If you've got any ideas for books which should be made into movies or movies which could be recast, let me know!

I quite like most of my choices, but I'm not too sure about Rochester and Jane. What I would really like, if The Eyre Affair was ever made into a movie, was for Rochester and Jane to be played by actors who had already played them in versions of Jane Eyre. But for this picspam I thought that would be cheating, so I did my best to pick some interesting actors.
