- 1-20 Wives and Daughters, submission for [livejournal.com profile] costume20in20
- 21-40 Pride and Prejudice (1995), submission for [livejournal.com profile] austen20in20

My submissions for this month's 20in20 competitions! I've recently rewatched Pride and Prejudice (1995) after a reread of the book. I think it was over 5 years since I last watched P&P and during this watch I was struck again with how wonderful Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth portrayed Lizzy and Darcy. So, these icons are a celebration of that fact!

What to say about Wives and Daughters. I've always loved the story about love at last sight. Molly is such a symphatetic heroine and I love the fact that Roger is a scientist , because I'm a scientist myself. The 19th century was such an exciting time in the natural science and Wives and Daughters plays against the backdrop of that.

Beautiful icons as ever - impossible to pick a favourite.

I haven't watched Pride and Prejudice in years and haven't seen Wives and Daughters for months either. Bumper rewatch session in order I think :)

I really enjoyed Wives and Daughters. I think Roger is lovely and it always puzzled me that Osborne was supposed to be more intelligent and good looking, I didn't think he was at all! And Justine Waddell is so pretty and absolutely ideal in this role, such just a shame she's disappeared from our tvs.

However, the ending has always niggled at me a bit somehow. It's not so much that they went exploring together (that was an excellent idea as they both had an interest in science), but the lack of contact and emotional expression. Probably didn't help that they had to create an ending as Elizabeth Gaskell died before she finished writing the book.

Thanks for your compliment!

I know, Roger and Molly are not really a touchy couple are they... Have you read the book? There was actually not very much to write anymore when Gaskell died, maybe only a chapter or two. But still, you can feel it in the adaptation, I agree.
